Death Note Live Action Remake ‘is still happening’
During a panel at Long Beach Comic Con, Shane Black confirmed Warner Brothers’ planned live-action adaption of Death Note ‘is still happening.’
He revealed that the project was in jeopardy when Warner Bros. wanted to change the plot, eliminating Ryuk, the Shinigami (Death God) from the script. The film would instead focus on the main character.
“Lose the Demon, we don’t want the kid to be evil…they just kept qualifying it until it ceased to exist.”
Sounds suspiciously like the supposed leaked script from last year, attached to brothers Vlas and Charles Parlapanides.
Black confirmed that Ryuk’s character and Light’s story have now been restored.
Warner Brothers acquired the rights to the series from Vertigo Entertainment in 2009.
